The Halton Regional Police Service Community Policing Support Unit is commanded by Inspector Jackie Gordon and managed by Staff Sergeant Rob Lloyd and Community Policing Co-ordinator Sergeant Craig Platt. Its operations are based out of Police Headquarters.
Insp. Gordon, S/Sgt. Lloyd, Sgt. Platt and members of the Community Policing Support Unit are responsible for ensuring the consistent application and continuity of community policing initiatives in all three Districts.

Other responsibilities of the Comunity Policing Unit/Co-ordinator include:

Maintaining an understanding of economic, social and cultural issues at the regional level to assist in the development of approrpriate policing responses

Researching policing strategies in other jurisdictions and identifying those of potential benefit to the HRPS and to Halton Region

Developing and coordinating marketing strategies to promote the goals and methods of community policing to members of the Service, the public, and partner agencies

Fostering relationships between the HRPS and potential partners (agencies, associations and individuals)

Acting as a resource to frontline officers on issues pertaining to community policing

Reviewing and evaluating community-directed initiatives in each District

Identifying training issues at the District and regional levels

Researching the policing needs and standards of each District through consultations with Community Committees and community partners
-
Recommending approaches to ensure continuity and consistency of approaches
-
Monitoring community consultation processes and establishing minimum standards for community committees, identifying strengths and weaknesses
-
Planning and coordinating biannual regional community committee meetings in the spring and fall
