OPC Training:
As a condition of employment with the Halton Regional Police Service, new recruits are required to attend the Basic Constable Training Course at the Ontario Police College (OPC).
The 12-week OPC training program is designed to prepare newly hired police officers to safely and effectively perform their duties, while meeting the needs of Ontario's diverse communities.
New recruits are required to pay the $7,500 tuition cost for the three (3) month program upon registration at the College.
Interest-Free Tuition Loans:
The Halton Regional Police Service offers interest-free tuition loans to all eligible recruits as an alternative to paying the fees on their own. The loans are repayable through payroll deductions over a period not exceeding three (3) years. Applicants must complete a Loan Application Form for processing and approval prior to their OPC registration.
Those approved for loans will receive Loan Agreement Forms that must be signed for the loans to be processed. Upon receipt of the signed agreement, the tuition fees will be paid directly to Ontario Police College by the Halton Regional Police Service.

In-House Training:
When first hired by the Halton Regional Police Service, new recruits attend two (2) weeks of on-site Level 1 Training at Halton Regional Police Service Headquarters prior to commencing the OPC Basic Constable Training Course.
Upon successful completion of the three (3) month OPC Basic Constable Training Course, recruits receive four (4) weeks of Level 2 Training, also offered at HRPS Headquarters.
At this point, new officers are assigned to platoons where they receive an additional 12 weeks of field training with a designated Coach Officer.
Finally, they return to Headquarters for three (3) weeks of Level 3 Training.
Upon completion of this final phase of training, the officers are promoted to 4th Class Police Constable on their swearing in date, which is shortly after OPC.
