Community Support Officer:
Constable Les Fulop is the Community Support Officer for Burlington. He works out of 30 Division and can be reached at 905-825-4747 ext. 2320.
Cst. Fulop plans and coordinates crime prevention programs and activities in collaboration with Community Team Policing. He acts as a resource to district officers and community members seeking information about public safety and policing. Cst. Fulop oversees the Communities on Phone Patrol (COPP) volunteers and works closely with this program as well as other community initiatives below.
Village Constable:
Constable Lad Butkovic is presently assigned to foot patrol duty as the Village Constable for Burlington's downtown core.
Cst. Butkovic works out of 30 Division and can be reached at 905-825-4747 ext. 2373. When not at his desk, he can usually be found in or about the new downtown HRPS substation.
Cst. Butkovic focuses his efforts on the enhancement of police and community relations through involvement in various community-driven committees and events. He assists with ongoing Service logistics for all events, parades and festivals taking place in the Burlington downtown core community.
Community Support Initiatives:
Lids 4 Kids:
The Halton Regional Police Service's annual Lids 4 Kids program caters to Burlington's young cycling community. Organized and run by members of the HRPS Bicycle Patrol Team (consisting of uniform and auxiliary officers), along with partners such as COPP and the Burlington Crime Prevention Committee, the event includes:
- Bicycle inspections
- Safety riding course
- Bicycle registration with the City of Burlington
- Helmet inspections and education
All program participants receive new bicycle helmets compliments of the local business community, as well as certificates of participation.
'KIK IT':
Keeping It Clean in Town (KIK IT) is a community beautification project organized by the Village Constable in partnership with other community agencies and volunteers in Burlington.
The project involves Burlington's Youth Diversion participants throughout the summer and fall months to help rid the downtown core and beach strip of unsightly litter and graffiti.
KIK IT is an opportunity to educate youth about the importance of community, volunteerism and the environment.
Safe Haven:
The Safe Haven project was designed to help maintain a safe and healthy community for those who live, work and play in Burlington's downtown business area. The Village Constable, in partnership with a network of businesses, collaborate to protect one another and alert authorities to criminal activity and emergency situations as they occur.
Youthfest:
Youthfest is a community partnership designed to promote youth involvement in community events and to enrich them through a better knowledge of what their community has to offer. There are approximately five major youth events over a four-month period between the months of February and May - including two Battle of the Bands concerts. The end of the event is celebrated on Youthfest Day at Central Park. This project aims to encourage youth volunteerism and philantrophy in the City of Burlington.
Drager Project:
The Drager Project is an opportunity to increase public knowledge of the breath test while promoting responsible drinking practices. Throughout the month of December, HRPS officers attend licensed restaurants and bars in Burlington for the purpose of administering free roadside breathalyser tests to volunteer patrons.
