The Provinical Asset Forfeiture Unit (PAFU), which oversees the O.R.P. Project, is comprised of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (Central Region, Eastern Region, Northern Region, and Western Region) and a number of municipal police services, including the HRPS.
O.R.P. was created as a partnership between the O.P.P. and Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (CISO) in 2005 to establish a province-wide, single-source service provider for the seizing, storage, maintenance and disposition of vehicles.
PAFU has also undertaken the role of overseeing the operation and administration of the program, including the approval of which vehicles are accepted into the project.
Vehicles have been seized in relation to the following offences:
- Impaired driving
- Break, enter and theft
- Dangerous driving
One police officer from the Halton Regional Police Service is assigned to and trained with the Unit.
