Hand-Held Devices and Driving

The Halton Regional Police Service reminds motorists that Ontario's ban on hand-held devices while driving took effect on October 26, 2009.

The new law (Bill 118) makes it illegal for drivers to talk, text, type, dial or send/receive email using hand-held communications and entertainment devices.

A provision has been made regarding the use of 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Note that hands-free devices are still permitted.
