Analytical Services

The Analytical Services Unit provides support relating to the analysis of crime and intelligence information to patrol, investigative and administrative branches of the Halton Regional Police Service. The mission of the Unit is to effectively and efficiently review, evaluate, analyze and report on all aspects of law enforcement information with the aim of apprehension, disruption and prevention of crime and disorder related activity in Halton Region.

Unit members use specialized tools and skills to assist client groups by providing timely intelligence relating to:

  • Criminal activity
  • Emerging and active trends
  • Patterns and threats
  • Active offenders and organizations

This allows decision makers to plan appropriate tactical or strategic responses. Tactically, responses can include knowing where and when to deploy patrol officers to maximize effectiveness or matching offenders and their methods of operation for use of intelligence information by investigators. Strategic responses involve the tracking of larger-scale trends or activities, whether these be over longer time periods or larger geographic areas.

The Analytical Services Unit cannot release crime statistics or respond to public requests for statistical information. Requests for information should be directed to the Freedom of Information Officer, the Director of Corporate Communications or the Media Affairs Officer.
